your questions answered..............!

Question:

I have had all the straightening cut of my hair. My hair is natural but extremely short, so short I am unable to plait it. I have a very good hair regime but would dearly like to see some length. The ends are not split and I eat very healthy. Is it because of the cold weather why I have not noticed any growth?

Dear reader,

First of all, how long ago did you cut your hair? Reason for asking is because hair  growth rate happens in stages hair growth cycle, and it takes time for visible and significant length to be achieved - it is even harder to notice even the minimalist amount of growth on natural afro hair due to it's coily spring like nature - so without flat ironing the hair straight it would be difficult to accurately assess how long your hair has really grown since your big chop.

Are you wearing any protective hair styles, such as  a wig, or a weave? Cold weather can effect our hair length if regular hair maintenance is not upheld, but not hair growth.

My advice is keep up with your hair regime, continue to eat healthily, exercise, get loads of sleep, wear protective hair styles,  and stay patient. With the right hair products,  the correct application of them, and all of the above will get you the hair growth you desire in due time.

I hope this helps:)

regular swimmer? live in a hard water area? you might want to invest in a chelating shampoo!

What purpose does a chelating shampoo serve?

What it is:
From the Greek chele which means “claw.”

Chelates are materials that are capable or inclined to bond, at a molecular level, to another material. In other words, chelating agents chemically bind with minerals and keep them from depositing on your hair.  At least that’s the theoretical basis for this kind of formula. The chelating properties in these shampoos help fight against mineral buildup (such as calcium, lead, chlorine) to help minimize dullness in hair.

What to look for:
Look for products with the ingredient EDTA (click the link for more info)

So what is the difference between a clarifying shampoo and a chelating shampoo?

Well, to put it simply, clarifying shampoo's help remove product build up from styling aids such as hairsprays, mousses, gels, and products that contain silicones. Whilst chelating shampoo's help to remove mineral build up found in hard water and swimming pools etc.

I hope this helps!
